All About the Name

The Clarence Odbody Foundation draws its name and inspiration from Clarence Odbody, the beloved guardian angel from Frank Capra’s timeless classic It’s a Wonderful Life — a story that has reminded generations of the power of kindness, compassion, and the impact one life can have on so many others.

Founded by entrepreneur Steve Minnich, the Foundation honors the memory and legacy of his father, Hal Minnich, a long-time barber in Elyria, Ohio, who alongside his wife Eileen raised four children rooted in faith, family, and service to others. Known for his warm spirit and genuine care for people, Hal made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. In the Minnich household, watching It’s a Wonderful Life each Christmas wasn’t just a tradition — it was a reflection of the values Hal lived every day: generosity, humility, community, and love for others.

Inspired by those same values and the spirit of Clarence himself, the Foundation is dedicated to making the holiday season brighter and more meaningful for families, individuals, and urban school students throughout the Columbus, Ohio community. Through acts of kindness, support, and giving, the Clarence Odbody Foundation strives to remind people that even the smallest gesture can change a life and that no one should feel forgotten during the season of hope.
